Comments:  The first round of combat had a smaller turnout than we had hoped for, but a ton of fun was still had by those that where there.  First flight saw Mike Jablonski fight the wind with his brand new Funjet and take himself out early.  Josh Tinch, Sean Kewley and myself finished up the flight with a little contact but no kills. Second sorti saw the three strykers in the air with a few close calls, but again everyone landed without incident. The third and fourth flights Mike put his Yak foamie in the air in kind of a sacrifice mode, but he proved to be more difficult to hit than we thought and we where unable to take advantage of the sitting duck.   Finally on the fifth and final sorti Sean zeroed in and hit my stryker knocking one of my control arms off. Sean had lost too much air speed from the contact and was unable to recover and we both went to the ground.
The next round of combat will be on Saturday May 21st.  We would love to have more guys show up and compete. After the first round no one scored any kills so everyone is tied for the lead!

Comments:  The second round of Wing Whackers combat league was action packed. Round 2 had not only the regulars of Sean Kewley, Josh Tinch and myself, but returning rookie Mike Jablonski was there along with newcomer Bob Schmidt.  Our own Tom Blackstone made a valiant effort with our loaner plane, but had some difficulties keeping it airborne. 1st sortie had no contact, but having 5 planes in the air fighting at the same time was exciting. 2nd sortie had all 5 planes in the air again with Bob showing an interesting landing technique as he put his Stryker about 20 feet up in a tree! 3rd sortie had lots of close calls with the skill levels of the newer flyers improving quickly. After the club meeting we flew the 4th sortie and Sean was finally able to break the ice and score a kill at my expence!  Final sortie had Sean and Josh hit with both planes taking too much damage to fly.

Comments: The third round of Wing Whackers combat league saw an opportunity to catch and pass series leader Sean Kewley as he was not present due to prior commitments. Josh Tinch, Bob Schmidt, and Mike Jablonski, and myself all had hopes of scoring kills, but none of use where able capitalize. The first 2 rounds we where all a little too high and cautious. Once we brought it down a little, the flying was tighter and we had a good share of close calls, with the only contact being in the last sortie of the day by Josh and Mike. We would still love to have a few more guys join us out here and make it even more fun. If your interested, just come out and watch, and we can tell you what you would need to get started.

Comments:  The 4th round of Wing Whackers combat league was the most exciting round so far. The five regulars of Sean Kewley, Josh Tinch, Bob Schmidt, Mike Jablonski and myself where in attendance, along with Tom Blackstone taking another shot at competing. With cloudy conditions and as many as 6 planes in the air, it was sometimes a little challenging to keep track of who was who! First and second sorties had Tom still fighting with a few gremlins. Third flight saw Bob take himself out in dramatic fashion. On the fourth sortie, I was able to contact with Mike hard enough to knock an eleivon off his plane and score a kill, thus putting me in a tie with Sean at 1 each. The final sortie we celebrated Tom's first complete flight! The next round was scheduled for July 2nd, but we will probably reschedule due to family commitments. Look for the new date on this web site.

Comments: The 5th round of Wing Whackers combat league was very entertaining. Although regulars Josh Tinch and Mike Jablonski where not able to attend, series co leader Sean Kewley, Bob Schmidt, Tom Blackstone and myself where eager to compete after the long wait from the last round. The first sortie was a little behind schedule in order to give Sean a chance to apply what looked like a mile of duct tape to his EDF powered stryker. Sorties 1 and 2 had some contact, but no damage. About half way through the third flight, Tom was able to make contact...with the barn! After we all landed, we where able to find his plane and make some repairs, but a stripped servo was discovered and grounded his plane. On the fourth sortie Sean clipped my plane and ripped an elevon, but I had just enough control to land. Close, but no kill. The final flight had Sean and I fighting some electrical problems and ended with nobody scoring a kill on the day.

Comments:The 6th round of Wing Whackers combat consisted of Tom Blackstone, Mike Jablonski, Bob Schmidt and myself. Breezy conditions had everyone flying a little nervously on the first flight. We all settled down and began to make friends with the wind on the second and third flights, with a few close calls, but no contact. The fourth flight had Tom experience a mechanical problem with his motor mount failing in flight. By the time the last sortie was flown, we were all handling the wind like seasoned veterans. No kills on the day, leaving Sean and myself still tied at 1 each.

Comments: The 7th round of Wing Whackers combat was flown with great weather and a good turnout, including Josh Tinsh, Sean Kewley, Mike Jablonski, Bob Schmidt and myself along with Tom Blackstone using a loaner plane. Things started off a little too high and cautious, but soon the flying was tighter and a few touches where heard in the first and second flights. On the third sortie, Josh was able to come down on top of Tom and knock him to the ground without Tom realizing it was his plane that was hit. This puts Josh in a three way tie for the lead with Sean and me. Tom had to leave for prior commitments so we gave Scott Evanson a shot at competing with the now vacant loaner plane. He had a great time and it kept things exciting for the last 2 flights.

Comments: The 8th round of Wing Whackers combat league was very exciting. The regulars of Bob Schmidt, Mike Jablonski, Tom Blackstone and myself where on hand. Although Josh and Sean where not able to make it, Jerry Virnig and Mike Fredricks of the Beaver Dam RC club made the trip and showed us what "real" combat was all about. On the first flight, our own Patrick Higgins joined us with what looked to be a perfectly fine nitro plane, when asked why he wanted to combat with us, his reply was "I hate that plane"... well that was good enough for us! Jerry and Mike F took off and we all followed, I found myself (along with Jerry and Mike F) trying to chase that big juicy target for Pat's. On the second sortie, the true combat plane of Jerry's hit me hard enough to almost shear a wing off! He then went on to take out his partner Mike F and scored a record 2 kills in 1 flight! On the third flight, we lost Pat on takeoff and was out for the day much to our disappointment. The fourth sortie saw Mike F hit Mike J hard enough to knock his battery over 60 feet down the runway from where his plane stopped. By the fifth flight, we where starting to figure out how to handle flying with the new guys. Mike F made one more attempt for a kill on Tom, shredding the nose of his plane right off! Tom was able to fly his plane for the rest of the flight negating a kill. I will have to ask Jerry and Mike F if they want to join our league, if they do, Jerry will be in the lead with 2 kills and Mike F will be tied for second with Josh, Sean and me.

Comments: The 10th round of Wing Whackers combat had all the regulars of Josh Tinch, Mike Jablonski, Bob Schmidt, Tom Blackstone and myself. Sean Kewley was out of town, but was sorry he missed out. First flight had Mike and myself hit hard over the east end of the flight line, causing more than enough damage for both of us to go down. Mike and I where able to use the parts from both planes to put my stryker back up in the air. Josh decided to fly his nitro P51 mustang for the next round and not only had no problem keeping up with us, he was actually out performing our high speed foamies! Although there where some close calls, no hits in the second, third and fourth sorties as we flew in between rain showers. The fifth flight saw Josh still opting to use his mustang and was able to score a kill at Tom's expense, putting himself in the lead with about half of the flight left. I tried to keep as close to Josh as I could and it almost paid off as we hit in a bank at the west end. Josh's right wing was sheared off and he went down under power, but with no flight control. My plane was undamaged, but the impact sent my battery a full 120 feet down the flight line! Josh's P51 was pretty much toast, and even though my plane was ok, I was not able to score a kill.

Tom's Stryker after Barron Von Tinch's attack                                   Dennis finally got Josh's Mustang, but unfortunately was not able to score the kill.

Comments:  The 11th round of combat saw breezy, but sunny conditions. In attendance where Tom Blackstone, Bob Schmidt, Mike Jablonski, Josh Tinch and myself. We all fought with the wind throughout the day, causing Tom to crash hard enough to end his day on the second flight. By the fourth flight, we where flying closer and learning to conserve battery power along with saying out of the sun. On the fifth flight, Bob seemed to of had enough of just flying around and hit Josh, but was unable to send his plane to the ground. Unhappy with that, Bob came after me and hit me straight out over the corn field. The impact was enough to pull the power leads from the ESC to the motor apart. I still had surface control and I was able glide the plane back towards the runway, but it went in the books as a kill for Bob!! He now shares second place with Sean and myself with one kill each. With one round left, Josh is our leader with two kills.

Comments: Lots of hits, even good damage, but no kills.  A perfect day out at the field.  Check out the picture.  Bob and Mike hit hard by the barn.  Mike's planes prop is ground down to a little nub and Bob is missing a Vertical Stab and all his electronics are hanging out.  Both planes remain flyable. No Kill.  Lots of fun had by all.

An Overall Fun 2011 Season. Hope to see you all flying next year.
